Heading 1: PM Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to Meet in Delhi

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to travel to Delhi in a few hours to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On 28th January, the Janata Dal United, in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, formed the government in Bihar, claiming a return of the 2020 mandate. This formal meeting with the PM comes after the return of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the state.

Heading 2: Opposition Unity Returns

After receiving a mandate to form the government in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections along with the BJP, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took charge. However, he later switched sides and aligned with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal. After becoming the Chief Minister of the Mahagathbandhan government with the RJD, Nitish Kumar started gathering opposition parties against the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On 23rd June, he held the first meeting of the opposition unity in Patna. He was referred to as the architect of opposition unity, but suddenly, he returned to the BJP, coloring himself in the lotus. The NDA government took oath in Bihar on 28th January.

Heading 3: Nitish Kumar as JD(U) National President

Along with being the Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar is now also the national president of the Janata Dal United (JD(U)). Before and after becoming the JD(U) national president, he was the most vocal about seat sharing in the Mahagathbandhan and the Indian National Congress alliance. Ten days after his return to the BJP, he has not discussed seat allocation as party president. While his meeting with PM Modi in Delhi on Wednesday will be formal, the issues of the Lok Sabha elections, seat sharing in Bihar, and the majority test in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on 12th February could be the topics of discussion. The remaining components of the NDA ★both factions of the Lok Janshakti Party, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular, and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samta Party ★also need to allocate seats.
