Amit Kumar, a farmer from Samastipur, believes that cash crops are more profitable, but this is not necessarily true. He started growing bananas on a 2-acre farm 7 years ago and has been making a profit of more than 2 lakh rupees every 6 months. This shows that banana farming can be a lucrative option for farmers.
Sudhir Kumar Rai, another farmer from Inayatpur Dhamon village in the Patoree Thana area of Samastipur district, also shares a similar success story. He used to sell bananas for 600 rupees per bunch during the Chhath Puja festival. He doesn’t have to find buyers as they come to his farm to purchase the bananas directly. Sudhir grows the Alpine variety of bananas, which still sells for around 400 to 500 rupees per bunch.

Once the plant is established, it continues to produce a harvest as long as it remains disease-free. Farmers believe that timely irrigation and the use of organic fertilizers can also improve the yield. They also fill the gaps between banana plants with rice straw to provide support.
