Purnia, a district in Bihar, witnessed a chaotic scene as around 400 police personnel, along with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police, arrived in Ward No. 42 of Abdullah Nagar on Sunday. The administrative team had come to evacuate a 120-acre land, which had around 500 houses built on it. As soon as the officials reached the area, the crowd became unruly, with people gathering with papers in hand. Several women fainted during the commotion and had to be rushed to the hospital. The situation escalated to the point where the police had to retreat.

This is the third time that the administration has failed to evacuate the land in Abdullah Nagar. The dispute revolves around 32 acres of land, for which a court order was obtained to gain possession. However, the local residents strongly opposed the evacuation, even presenting a High Court order in their favor. The clash resulted in the deterioration of the health of six individuals, leading to their hospitalization. The situation became tense, and ambulances had to be called to provide medical assistance.

According to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Rakesh Raman, the administration had come to enforce the court order to take possession of the land. However, due to the strong opposition from the locals, the police had to retreat. The matter will be further deliberated upon, and a decision will be made later. The locals claim that they have been residing in the area for the past 30-40 years, with around 500 houses built there. Some residents have even received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The situation is set to be heard in the High Court on February 22, and the land will be marked before further evacuation attempts are made.
