Significance of Ram Navami

Ram Navami is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Rama in the form of a festival. According to scriptures, Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born on the ninth day of the bright half of the Chaitra month. This day is known as Ram Navami. Pandit Vivek Dwivedi from Patna explains that as per Valmiki Ramayana, Lord Rama took birth on this day in Treta Yuga to alleviate the sufferings of his devotees.

Auspicious Yoga and Time of Birth

On Ram Navami, a favorable yoga called Ravi Yoga is formed, which is considered highly auspicious in astrology. Pandit Vivek Dwivedi mentions that during the birth of Lord Rama, the weather was pleasant with neither extreme cold nor harsh sunlight. His birth took place in the Abhijit Muhurat in Karka Lagna. This is why Ram Navami falls on the last day of Chaitra Navratri.

Celebrating Ram Navami with Pooja

To celebrate Ram Navami, start by placing a wooden chowki covered with a red or yellow cloth. Install idols of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Mother Sita, and Hanuman purified with Ganga water on the chowki. Dress them in yellow attire and apply a yellow tilak of sandalwood or roli. Offer akshat, flowers, and other puja items. Light a ghee lamp in front of the idols and recite Ram Raksha Stotra, Ram Chalisa, and verses from Ramayana. Additionally, devotees can worship Lord Hanuman by reciting Sundarkand and Hanuman Chalisa on this auspicious day.
