The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids in various areas of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. A significant amount of cash was recovered from the domestic help of Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary to Jharkhand’s Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. Over 20 crores rupees have been counted so far, with officials continuing to tally the exact amount. Sources reveal that the cash was found in 500 rupee notes.

Last year in February, the ED arrested Virendra K. Ram, the Chief Engineer of Jharkhand Rural Development Department, in a money laundering case. After extensive questioning, Ram was taken into custody. During the interrogation, Ram disclosed his relationships with several prominent individuals. It was revealed that Ram possessed assets worth 150 crores and gold ornaments worth 2 crores. The ED also seized a laptop and pen drives from Ram. Raids were conducted at 24 locations connected to Ram on February 21st last year.

The ED informed the court that during the investigation of Ram and his family’s bank accounts, they found discrepancies in their income sources. Ram was accused of acquiring movable and immovable property in the names of his father, wife, and other family members, disproportionate to their income. A complaint regarding a money laundering case was filed against Virendra Ram in September 2020. The investigation revealed that the assets acquired by Ram did not align with his family’s income ratio.
