Smart City Project in Bhagalpur Faces Roadblocks
After a morning rain, the Smart City project in Bhagalpur faced challenges with waterlogging and mud on many roads. The Smart City company claims that the city’s roads were made smart four months ago with an expenditure of 299 crores, although the initial estimate was 183 crores.
Completion and Maintenance of Smart Roads
Under the Smart concept, around 30 km of roads were to be made smart in the city, with construction work starting in November 2021. While some roads have been completed, others still require maintenance. Footpaths and intersections have not been developed as per the Smart City project.
Missing Elements in the Project
Several planned elements, such as ramps for accessibility, entry ramps for the differently-abled, gardens, seating areas, cycle tracks, street furniture, public benches, junction electric boxes, and pedestrian lights, have not been completed as part of the project.
List of Roads Included in the Smart City Project
Various roads in Bhagalpur were included in the Smart City project, such as Lajpat Park Road, Commissioner Office to Collectorate Office Road, and Shankar Talkies Chowk to Khalifabagh Chowk Road, among others. While some roads have been successfully developed, others are still pending completion.
