Gulshan Kasyap from Jamui, Bihar celebrated Sankashti Chaturthi, also known as Sakat Chauth, on the fourth day of the waning phase of the moon in the month of Magh. On this day, the worship of Lord Ganesha is believed to remove all obstacles and bring an end to adversities in life. Those who have been unable to conceive are advised to offer prayers and worship the moon to attain the blessings of child happiness. Pandit Shatrughna Jha, an astrologer, also mentioned that worshipping the moon on this day can resolve financial and debt-related issues.
The auspicious timing for Sankashti Chaturthi this year is on January 29, starting from 6:10 am and concluding on January 30 at 8:55 am. It is recommended to perform the worship and archana of Lord Ganesha on this day. Observing a nirjala nirahar fast (fasting without water and food) is advised, and one should break the fast only after the evening prayers.
After a full day of worship, it is suggested to offer arghya (offering of water) to the moon when it rises in the evening and then proceed with the worship of Lord Ganesha. It is customary to offer til (sesame seeds) and gud (jaggery) modaks (sweet dumplings) to Lord Ganesha on Sankashti Chaturthi. Listening to the vrata katha (narrative of the fasting ritual) of Lord Ganesha is also recommended before performing his puja. After the puja, offering water to the moon and donating to the poor is believed to bring blessings and happiness in the form of child happiness.
