Mohan Prakash, a district agricultural officer in Supaul, Bihar, has announced that tea cultivation will soon begin in the district. This comes as a welcome development for tea lovers in the region, who have had to rely on tea leaves from other districts. The district agricultural officer, Ajit Kumar Yadav, revealed that they have already started preparations for tea cultivation and that it will soon commence in the district. This will put an end to the misconception that tea cultivation can only be done in the hilly regions.
During a recent visit to Supaul, the secretary of the agriculture department held a review meeting in the Sarayagadh-Bhaptiyahi block to discuss the possibilities of cultivating new crops in the area. He mentioned that neighboring districts are already cultivating various new crops such as coconuts, dragon fruit, lemons, and pineapples. Inspired by this, the officials are now exploring the potential for tea cultivation in Supaul. The assistant director of horticulture, Mrityunjay Kumar, confirmed that tea cultivation is feasible in Basantpur.
A meeting was held in Basantpur with enthusiastic farmers, where a survey was conducted to select suitable land for tea cultivation. It was determined that over 107 acres of land in the Basantpur block is suitable for tea cultivation. However, they will start with a smaller area initially. The final selection for tea cultivation was made for 107.5 acres of land after conducting the survey. This development is expected to benefit tea lovers in Supaul and establish a local tea industry in the district.
