Introduction

When people hear the name of a court, they usually think of district or sub-divisional headquarters. However, in a village in Bihar, a rural court similar to a district or sub-divisional court has started functioning. This unique court is located in Cheria Bariarpur Sadar Panchayat in Begusarai.

Court Proceedings

The population of Cheria Bariarpur Sadar Panchayat is around 10,000, and despite having a police station in the panchayat, people prefer to go to the rural court for most cases except for serious crimes like murder. The court operates with a judge, sarpanch sitting on the judge’s chair, a secretary for clerical work, and government-appointed lawyers for legal advice, known as “Nyay Mitra”.

Legal Matters in the Village

The rural court in Cheria Bariarpur Sadar Panchayat conducts trials similar to a regular court, where both parties present their arguments standing in their respective booths. The entire setup during court proceedings resembles a district court. With the support of the village head, deputy sarpanch, and panch members, the court has successfully resolved most cases in the past 10 years, making it a popular choice for seeking justice in the region.
