Abhishek Jayaswal, the CEO and founder of Ganga Vilas, the country’s most luxurious cruise, has announced that the cruise’s arrival in Varanasi has been postponed. Due to low water levels in the Ganges between Varanasi and Patna, the cruise was unable to reach Varanasi in November. According to officials from Ganga Vilas, the cruise will depart from Kolkata on December 20th, carrying tourists. However, there is no possibility of it coming to Varanasi. It is expected to reach Patna by January 6, 2024, and then return to Kolkata.
Water levels are low at 3 to 4 spots between Varanasi and Patna. The CEO, Kamraj Singh, stated that the luxury cruise requires a minimum water depth of 1.5 meters to operate, but the water levels are low at 3 to 4 spots between Varanasi and Patna. To avoid getting stuck in the Ganges, tourists were dropped off in Patna. The cruise is currently returning to Kolkata after leaving tourists in Patna.
This is not the first time the cruise has faced obstacles. Previously, on January 13, 2023, the cruise was scheduled to embark on a journey from Varanasi to Dibrugarh. However, it was unable to reach the Ganges banks in the Doriganj area of Chhapra, Bihar, due to low water levels. In any case, the cruise is expected to reach Kolkata by December 18 or 19. It will then bring tourists to Patna on December 20 and arrive in Patna on January 6, 2024.
